Keeping Children's Hands and Minds Busy: Collections

 By: Sarah Eiden

As a child, I collected stamps and Joan Walsh Anglund dolls. My son collects bottle caps; all kinds. His favorite is now Point Root Beer with the Point cone-headed man on the cap. Very funny. He is such a cool kid. Anyway, here are some ideas for your child's collection. Help them find something that interests them.

After your child has chosen a collection, find a way to organize and sort their tressures. Hobby stores carry specialty books and organizers for collections. Part of the fun of collecting, is sorting and displying those items. Don't let them be hidden in a shoebox. Help your child make his collection something he can be happy with, enjoy and love sharing with others.

Contact your local library to see if your child's collection could be put on display.
